Biography of the band Nirvana
Nirvana was an American grunge, from Aberdeen,
Washington. With the
hit single "Smells Like Teen
Spirit", the album Never mind (1991), Nirvana
climbed the charts around the world and started the explosion of what was
hitherto underground punk and alternative rock in the world music scene, in a movement that the media of the time would refer to as "grunge". Other bands of the Seattle music
scene as Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains
and Temple of the Dog also gained popularity and as a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre on radio and music television during the first half
of the 1990s.
Kurt Cobain, front man, found himself referred to in the media as the "voice of a generation", with Nirvana as the "flagship band" of "Generation X". Cobain was uncomfortable with the attention they gave them and decided to focus the public's attention to the band's music, challenging the audience with its third studio album In Utero. While Nirvana's popularity declined in the months following the album's release, much of the audience praised the inside "dark" of the band, especially after his presentation at MTV Unplugged.
Nirvana's brief run ended with Cobain's death in 1994, but its popularity grew even more in subsequent years. Eight years after Cobain's death, "You Know You're Right", an unfinished demo that the band had recorded two months before Cobain's death, climbing the radio charts and music from around the world. In 2004 were ranked at # 27 on the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in Rolling Stone and # 14 according to the magazine Vh1. Since its debut, the band has sold over 50 million albums worldwide, 2 including 10 million copies of Nevermind in the U.S. and 25 million around the world.2 3 Your music continues to be emitted by radio stations worldwide.

In 1991, the arrival of Cobain's best known song, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" marked the beginning of a dramatic change in the music scene of his time away from the dominant genres of the eighties, glam metal and pop-type "radio friendly" (radio-friendly), and leading to the rise to alternative rock and grunge subgenre, the latter becoming the dominant genre in the first half of the decade, and paving the way for the continue as a dominant alternative rock the rest of the decade when the grunge British counterpart, another subgenre of alternative, the cheerful britpop became popular around 1994 (which coincides exactly with the death of Cobain). By January 1992, Nevermind, the album that contains precisely Smells Like Teen Spirit, had displaced Michael Jackson's Dangerous album from the top spot of Billboard, marking a time of great importance in the history of contemporary music and the triumph of the pop rock. Song Come As You Are:
Come as You Are is remembered as one of the more upbeat songs of Nirvana. While other band's songs contain lyrics "dark," Come as You Are welcomes the listener "as a friend". The song is the overall theme of acceptance, inviting the listener to do what the title says ("Come as you are"). However, it also contains a slight air of suspicion by the encounter, particularly the line "And I swear that I do not have a gun" ("And I swear that I have a gun") that is repeated several times.
Following the death of singer Kurt Cobain in April 1994, was given a lot of importance to this verse "I swear I do not have a gun" ("I swear that I have a gun"). Several comments were made about other songs that mention Nevermind weapons. Subsequently, however, was taken as mere coincidence since the album was recorded three years before Cobain's death.

Death of Kurt Cobain:
In early 1994, the band embarked on a European tour. Although the tour started well, concerts gradually declined, with the image of a Cobain bored and distracted during concerts, particularly during passage through Italy. After direct Terminal Eins in Munich, Germany, on March 1, Cobain was diagnosed with bronchitis and severe laryngitis. The following night show was canceled. On the morning of March 4, in Rome, Cobain was found unconscious by Courtney Love and was taken to a hospital. A doctor told a news conference that the singer responded to a combination of Rohypnol and alcohol. The rest of the tour was canceled, including a planned visit (after 2 years without going) to the UK.
In the weeks following, the heroin addiction resurfaced Cobain. A meeting was organized by family and friends of Kurt Cobain and convinced it to enter rehab. With less than a week in rehabilitation, Cobain escaped from rehab and flew to Seattle. A week later, on Friday, April 8, 1994, the Cobain's lifeless body was discovered by an electrician at his home in Seattle.
